Industry First! PVD Coating for Deep-Hole Inner Surfaces - diXis®

Conventional PVD coatings emit metal ions in a radial pattern, making it difficult to form ceramic protective films deep inside holes.  diXis® - developed by Hokunetsu Corporation, uses electromagnetic coils to convert metal ions into high-density, parallel beams—allowing targeted irradiation deep into the workpiece, where a uniform film forms on the inner surface.

Processes like powder sintering and cold forging rely on presses and molds, where coating deep areas of molds has traditionally been challenging. With diXis® technology, wear inside molds is significantly improved.

When the film thickness target is set to 3 μm, diXis® achieves an internal coating distribution of 1.5–3 μm for holes with a length-to-diameter ratio (L/D) of ≤7.
